What is Basalt?
Basalt is a dark, heavy igneous (volcanic) rock that forms in the rapid cooling of magnesium-rich and iron-rich lava. It makes up most of the earth’s oceanic crust although it can also be found on dry land. It is darker and denser than granite because it is rich in minerals (magnesium & iron). The grains are finer than other types of stone compared to other rocks because it cools very quickly, near/on the earth’s surface.
How & where can Basalt be used?
Basalt can be used in the following applications:
Bathroom vanity tops
We are limited to what we can do with this type of stone due to size, the slab sizes are usually around 1200 x 600 so we can’t make very large pieces.
